SUMMARY:Carolina Days Celebration: Explore Georgetown
DESCRIPTION:Spend a day exploring Georgetown County’s museums and historic sites to learn about the history\, stories\, and people that helped shape the American Revolution. Special programming and discounted admission will be offered at each of the following participating sites. All participating sites will be open from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. \nGullah Museum:  Stop by the Gullah Museum of Georgetown to learn about the rich history and culture of the Gullah Geechee people and how they shaped America from the Colonial period to today. The museum will offer free activities for children\, such as Gullah doll-making\, a scavenger hunt\, coloring sheets\, and games. Tickets and tearoom reservations available online at www.hopsewee.com. 494 Hopsewee Rd.\, Georgetown\, SC \nHobcaw Barony: The Discovery Center will be open regular hours\, 9 am-5 pm\, with exhibits and docents available to assist attendees. There will be a scavenger hunt\, coloring\, etc. for children. The Discovery tour will be offered at 10 am and again at 11 am. This 2-hour tour of the property is done via a 12-person van. Cost is $30.00. Participants will ride down Old Kings Highway (Francis Marion)\, visit Friendfield African American Village\, learning about rice growing in the very early years of our country\, and the role enslaved Africans played. Hobcaw will also be offering a 3-hour “Revolutionary” Explore Tour for $40.00 beginning at 1:30 pm-4:30 pm. The tour includes going out to the salt marsh at Oyster Landing\, discussing Native American presence on the property\, and looking across to North Island\, where Lafayette landed. From fossils to shipwreck artifacts\, to models and the prized 5th Order Fresnel lens from the Georgetown Lighthouse\, there’s something for everyone. Visit us and learn about the transatlantic slave trade to South Carolina during the colonial period. View historic ads featuring shipping during the 1700s and the intriguing stories they tell.
