Step back in time and stay at Mansfield Plantation, a plantation home offering comfort, beauty and timeless elegance. It is the perfect getaway for anyone dreaming of an escape from the norm. At this bed and breakfast, you set the pace, waking up for a delicious Lowcountry breakfast, going birdwatching on the Black River, or taking a walk back in time on the authentic rice plantation.
You can almost hear the steamboats churning up the river and the children playing in the school house. Established by a 1718 land grant from Great Britain, the plantation was originally a 500-acre plot of land owned by the Parker family on the outskirts of the bustling new village of Georgetown. Construction began on the main house 50 years later, and soon after, Mansfield Plantation blossomed into one of the largest rice plantations in South Carolina. Today, Mansfield Plantation covers nearly 1,000 acres and is recognized as “one of the most architecturally intact rice plantations in South Carolina.” It is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places and is now owned and operated by the descendant of the original Parker family owners, John Rutledge Parker, and his wife, Sallie Middleton.
