Gullah Museum
Celebrating Gullah, a language and culture created by the Africans brought to the Sea Islands of South Carolina in Colonial times, the Gullah Museum offers tours, presentations and demonstrations of traditional Gullah and Lowcountry crafts. The museum, founded by Andrew Rodrigues and the late Vermelle “Bunny” Rodrigues, is dedicated to highlighting contributions of the Gullah people to the development and the undeniable success of the Carolina rice culture. The museum highlights the history and culture of the Gullah people, as well as the beautiful mix of English and various West African languages that intermingled to form what is known as Creole or Gullah – only spoken by a few thousand people today.
