Strand Theater & Cinema

For a night out on the town, many couples or groups of friends enjoy the experience of live theater or a favorite classic movie, independent film, or documentary at the Strand Theater. Originally a movie theater built in 1941, this iconic building on Front Street was purchased by the Swamp Fox Players, a local theater company, in 1982. It had closed as a movie theater in the early 1970s.

Over the years, renovations and restoration have been done to the marquee, an annex was added to the back of the building which includes a green room, several more dressing rooms, a rehearsal room and a workshop. In 2009, the lobby and balcony were redecorated, carpet was installed in the theater, and a new main curtain and wall curtains were added. In 2016, new theater seats and floor were added, and renovations are ongoing.
