Hwy 55

A Carolina tradition dating back to 1991 (even if the decor is all 1950s-era diner, complete with a pink-and-teal color scheme), Hwy 55 specializes in “never-frozen and hand-pattied” hamburgers, cheesesteaks, made-to-order salads and, for dessert, its famous frozen custard, sundaes, shells and floats. “Andy Specials,” a nod to the eatery’s original name, mark items such as the Shrimp Burger. Oh, and if you’re up for the challenge of eating a 55-ounce burger, fries and a 24-ounce drink in 30 minutes or less, it’s free.
